Safety

To Golden Pass LNG, safety is the top priority and is reflected in all aspects of the terminal, pipeline and ships. During design and construction, Golden Pass LNG rigorously adhered to strict industry and regulatory design requirements. High industry standards of operation and maintenance – as well as government regulations— are continuously met.

Golden Pass LNG follows in the footsteps of an outstanding LNG industry safety record, spanning over 50 years:

  • The global industry is thoroughly committed to the highest standards of safety.
  • Over the life of the LNG shipping industry only eight incidents occurred worldwide.
  • LNG carriers have safely traveled more than 128 million miles, a distance equal to more than 5,000 times around the equator.
  • There have been no collisions, fires, explosions or hull failures or loss of containment or loss of life.

LNG itself is a safe, odorless, non-toxic and environmentally-friendly fuel. Once LNG is converted to natural gas, it produces relatively low emissions when burned to heat homes, generate electricity and fuel vehicles. When exposed to the environment, LNG rapidly evaporates and disperses, leaving no residue on water or soil. LNG can only burn in a highly unlikely combination of events – if it is vaporized, mixed with the right amount of air and provided a source of ignition.
